Anti-Racism
No institution is free from structural racism simply due to the nature of them being created within a racist society. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in the USA celebrate 25 years of the SNDdeN/USA Anti-Racism Team (ART). The purpose of ART is to address the structural racism within SNDdeN USA. The ART members commit themselves annually to “to dismantling racism in all of its forms and to working consciously towards becoming an anti-racist Congregation.”
The Ohio Province is working to address systemic racism within our own community and in society. We believe that the systems that were intentionally created in our society to keep people separate must be changed so we can move toward a just society for all. We state loudly that racism and white privilege are intolerable and unacceptable.
We urge all people to be in solidarity with each other. We challenge ourselves and you to learn about bias, prejudice and racism. To that end, we recommend these two programs for use in your family, school, or parish. The journey to becoming an anti-racist can be difficult. But it is worth the sometimes painful self-discovery as it leads us closer to all of God's people.
