August 2023: Monthly Reflections of God's Goodness

What do your fear? What worries you? What can transform those fears and worries into hope, knowledge and peace?

“Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2

We need to come closer to our God, and work to deepen our trust and grow in our faith in Him. Let us hold fast to God’s word. This is our greatest help as we face the faithless culture we live in. Jesus tells us, “Do not be afraid!” Some people claim Jesus said it hundreds of times as recorded in Scripture. I don’t really know how many times, but I think the message of Jesus is clear. Do not be afraid – of anything!

“For I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, Do not fear, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13

I do know that it is really hard for us not to fear or worry. There are so many disordered situations we face daily. Our children and grandchild stopped going to church. What can we do? What will happen to them in this crazy, confused world? How will they hear what God has to say to them about their lives?

Many in our church are struggling in their faith. There seems to be confusion and alienation among Catholics far and wide. Churches are half-empty. Some people reject what the church teaches about the sanctity of life, or obligations to help the suffering people around us.

Do not be afraid – believe. We cannot change what we see happening around us. We can only change ourselves.

“I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” John 16:33

We can grow in our faith in who God is and what He has done for us and we can grow in our trust in God’s words to us.

“Magnify the LORD with me; and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD,

and he answered me, delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4-5

Immerse yourself in Scripture. Take in how much God cares for you. See what happens for those who trust in God.
