Life is full of changes and challenges. Some good and some not so good. In this world of uncertainty, we must always find a way to live our life with hope. Where can we find the certainty that gives a sense of hope?
People of faith rely on the Lord to survive this day-to-day uncertainty.
“Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
God does care for us. Theologian, Karl Rahner, S.J. said that Christian faith is not simply knowledge about God, but trust in the saving grace of God. Another theologian, Gerhard Lohfink said Christian Faith means allowing God to be God rather than imagining that everything depends on our own efforts.
Padre Pio’s spirituality of trust and surrender centers on a single core maxim: Pray, hope and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer. The Surrender Novena uses Fr. Dolindo Ruotola’s prayer. You can make his prayer of surrender, your prayer, “Oh Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything.”
“Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.
Sufficient for a day is its own evil.” Matthew 6:34
Instead, do your best to live in the present moment. Focus on gratitude for today rather than thinking about what could happen tomorrow.
“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will act. …” Psalm 37:5
As we move through this month dedicated to Thanksgiving, may God give us the grace to count our blessings as we live each day in this world of uncertainty. May He bless our every effort to surrender our fears to Him and trust in His love and mercy.
Blessings,
