LENTEN SNAPSHOT #4

In 2020, substantial work was completed on several sites in the Democratic Republic of Congo — in Nselo, Mpese and Lemfu:

Last year, Nselo had electrical problems at buildings around the site that affected the operation of the photovoltaic system built in 2018. The work has now been performed to resolve these issues and the system is now fully functional. The water supply is also now running due to the deep well pump having its electrical operation restored.  The original 750 liter water tank mounted on the tower has been changed out for a larger 3,000 liter tank.  This will now be the standard at all of the Sisters’ sites in DRC.  Further work on the water system is anticipated this year. 

In 2020, Mpese had extensive rewiring work performed on a number of the buildings around the site. The operation of the water pump has moved from the generator to the photovoltaic system. Like Nselo, the 750 litre water tank mounted on the tower has been changed out for the standard 3,000 litre tank.  Further work is anticipated this year on the automation of the water pump controls. 

Work was performed in Lemfu during 2020 to extend electrical power and Internet access to the large auditorium that is adjacent to the community house. This will allow the students to have preliminary access to computer classes.  In 2021, further work is expected for the school as electrical power and Internet access are extended to other buildings.
