"On February 2, 1804, the Feast of the Purification of Mary, Julie Billiart, Françoise Blin de Bourdon and Catherine Duchatel consecrated themselves to God and promised to educate poor children and to form teachers. Since it was the Feast of Mary, they decided to name this new congregation: Sisters of Notre Dame. Each year on February 2, we Sisters of Notre Dame on five continents, celebrate our Congregational Feast during Mass; we renew our commitment to God and renew our vows of poverty, chastity and obedience." -- Ohio Province Leadership Team.
