Spiritual book recommendation from Sister Anne Flanagan, SNDdeN

Looking for a retreat resource? I recommend two books. The first is "Awakening Love: An Ignatian Retreat with The Song of Songs" by Gregory Cleveland, OMV. This is a refreshing approach to the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius. As one reviewer said, "Now for the first time ever, these two treasures are joined in a unique book that will open your heart and soul to God's personal love for you." Personally, I found this book very helpful for my own retreat and intend to continue to read and pray with it.

The other book is by William Barry, SJ, a familiar author of numerous books, many of which have been used and recommended for and by spiritual directors. "God's Great Story and You" is Fr. Barry's last book, written recently before his death at age 90. I quote from the back cover. "Fr. Barry invites us to ponder how the events and characters of Scripture relate to us in real-time and daily experience." His theme, which is in all his work as both author and spiritual director, is "God desires our friendship and participation in the grand story of grace."
