Prayer
I used to think prayer changes things. But now I know that prayer changes us, and we change things. -- St Teresa of Calcutta
Prayer may not change things for you, but it for sure changes you for things. -- Sam Shoemaker
More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of. --Alfred Lord Tennyson
Knowledge and Action
“Think about it. Why would you make something that you’re going to use for a few minutes out of a material that’s basically going to last forever, and you’re just going to throw it away. What’s up with that?” Jeb Berrier, Bag It movie
I guess I told a lie last week. I thought it would be the last Plastic Free July YLBG. Then I received a follow-up email from the Plastic Free Foundation giving some affects of PFJ 2024. So, I thought I’d share. Being a global movement, there are stories from all over the globe. As people realize how difficult it is to find plastic free alternative, the demand for changes in how products are packaged and shipped is growing.
Here are just a few of the changes around the world reported to PFJ Foundation this July:
- households shopping at farmers markets instead of grocery stores and taking reusable bags and boxes
- people switching from disposable wipes to reusable cotton ones
- whole workplaces making a Plastic Free Pledge to avoid single-use plastic bottles, cups and plastic wrap
- a community in India setting up a reusables bank with a large set of stainless steel cutlery, glasses, plates, spoons and bowls to borrow for free
- hotels switching from single-use plastic toiletries to providing items from refillable bottles
- hundreds of community events from practical workshops to cleanups and movie screenings.
The movement is growing! Be part of it! And keep up with more stories.
