Live The Good Volunteers Support 1N5

Live The Good Volunteers Support 1N5

Our largest Live The Good Opportunity to date.

On a recent Saturday morning, we were thrilled to host the largest Live The Good Opportunity to date. Volunteers gathered to support the efforts of 1N5, whose mission is to prevent suicide by erasing the stigma of mental illness and to promote optimal mental wellness. Together, we assembled self-care boxes for teachers, made buttons, and painted rocks with inspiring messages that will be taken to events involving children.

Sister Liz Bowyer, SNDdeN, welcomed over 40 volunteers, including Sisters, lay women, Associates, Development Office Staff, teenagers, children, and grandchildren to Amiens Hall at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday, September 10. After leading the group in prayer, Sister Liz introduced her niece, Beth Dulle, who is the Operations Manager for 1N5. In no time at all, volunteers formed an assembly line putting boxes together and lining them with bright green tissue paper, symbolizing the color attributed to mental health prevention. Down the line, others added items such as mugs and hot chocolate packets, note pads, crayons, and snacks.

Meanwhile, a family put together buttons while other volunteers painted rocks.

It may come as no surprise that 1 in 5, or 20%, of teens and adults suffer from mental illness. In this time of worldwide crisis and violence, in addition to recent isolation and fear due to Covid, it is hard to escape the constant media focus on such overwhelming news. It has never been more important to reflect on God’s goodness and share with each other.

A sense of community and a sense of belonging are among the best ways to mitigate the struggles brought on by loneliness, depression, and despair. Many Live The Good volunteers leave our events feeling positive, uplifted, and more connected to their faith and each other. They’ve discovered that making known God’s goodness is a joyful way to bring a much-needed bright spot in our sometimes dark world. We hope you join us for our next Live The Good. Visit the calendar for details of upcoming opportunities.

Be well. Do good.
