September means we are on the brink of a season change. The school year has begun, and all of us have adapted our schedules to accommodate school, work, sports, or whatever changes come with the season. No one has a choice.
An old friend of mine kept a sign hanging in her kitchen. It said, “everything changes.” It took me a long time to understand that change is a part of life. Most of us want to be in charge of ourselves, others and the world around us! However, that is so contrary to our actual experience!
Think about a bad storm coming your way. The TV warnings get louder and louder, yet we cannot do one thing to stop that storm. Jesus came to the disciples in the midst of a storm and invited Peter to join him walking on the water. Imagine what Peter had to let go of — he had to trust that Jesus had it all under control.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely; In all your
ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
How can we learn to let go of all that we cannot control? “Do not fear: I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
Resolve this month to dive deeper into the Word of God. Day by day, is how to know God better. Take time to be with God. Pray! Keep a prayer journal to record a scripture that speaks to you, or a lesson you think God is trying to teach you. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you in your journey. Scripture is full of God’s promises to be with us and to help us in our fears, longings and any kind of trouble that comes our way.
“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
God is so good to us. Thank Him every day for the small things and the big things that happen in your lives. Put your hope and trust in God. May His peace reign in our hearts and minds as we continue to trust in Him.
Blessings,

“I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
