Clean Water Initiative in Haiti

Following the August 14, 2021 earthquake, it was imperative to provide clean water to the people of Les Cayes. The Sisters' partner on the water initiative, D'lo Haiti, contributed these gallon jugs of water that bakery sellers gave to the community free of charge.

Despite the ongoing challenges of a devastating earthquake, presidential assassination and COVID in Haiti, the Notre Dame Bakery in Les Cayes has continued to employ eighteen bakery staff and provide work for a network of forty sellers.

Recently, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur partnered with D'lo Haiti to develop a reverse osmosis water purification system on the bakery site. This expansion will provide the bakery workers and sellers with a source of clean, safe, and affordable drinking water and a diversified revenue stream. The building to house the water purification system is complete and the equipment is partially installed.
