Kitenda, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is the last of the Congolese sites that was initially developed in 2010 and slated for refurbishment this year with new photovoltaic equipment and lithium-ion batteries.
Work is completed on a new, secure equipment storage building that now houses the replacement photovoltaic equipment that had been previously located outside. Construction of a new water plant is also in progress as well as the pumping and piping work at the water source. In early January 2021, Sister Dorothée Moya and several in-country electrical subcontractors started work on the following project components:
- electrical distribution for the site
- installation of a new generator
- final installation of the new photovoltaic equipment and batteries
Despite the pandemic, all of the material to build the water plant are on site. The construction activities at Kintenda are expected to be complete during 2021.
