Living the Good at Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank

The Gospel of Luke tells us Mary wrapped Jesus in swaddling clothes, as was the custom at the time of Jesus’ birth. Imagine if Mary didn’t have any swaddling clothes, which also served as diapers. What would she do?

Disposable diapers have mostly replaced cloth diapers today. Cloth diapers just aren’t practical or even possible for many families. For example, childcare centers require disposable diapers. However, disposable diapers are expensive. What do families do when they don’t have any? Too many parents are forced to make difficult decisions about how to stretch too few dollars. Diapers are a need, but so is food.

At our recent LTG Opportunity, volunteers assisted Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank in meeting this need. Together with Sisters JoAnne Depweg and Ann Fanella, LTG Volunteers donated, sorted, and wrapped diapers, making them ready to be delivered to agencies serving a population who desperately needs them.

Our time together began and ended with prayer led by Sr. Ann Fanella, as well as reflection and discussion regarding our experience. As always, one theme emerged: the joy we experience when we serve.

LTG Opportunities are now being planned for 2022. Do you know of an agency in need of a group of hard-working, happy volunteers? If so, I’d love to hear from you.

Merry Christmas and best wishes for a joyful new year.
