All Souls' Day 2021

Invitation to Virtually Visit Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto

All Souls' Day 2021: Invitation to Virtually Visit Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto from SNDdeN Ohio Province on Vimeo.

Each year, on November 2nd, the Church suggests we remember persons dear to us who have died. On that day, our Sisters will light candles in Our Lady of Lourdes grotto, here on our convent grounds, in memory of those special persons you have lost. We invite you to join us there virtually, letting the image of Bernadette, praying to Mary, ignite your faith in God's healing presence.

Before you view our grotto, a few words about how it came to be. It is a story that began in 1858, when a young, shepherdess, Bernadette Soubirous, desperately poor and weakly due to a bout with the cholera epidemic, had a series of faith-filled encounters with the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lourdes, France. During these meetings with Mary, Bernadette was guided to a natural spring, that continues to provide healing water to all who visit and pray.

Under the guidance of Church authorities, Our Lady was venerated as the Immaculate Conception and Lourdes became known as a place of healing. It is not surprising that the Sisters at Mount Notre Dame would build a shrine to Mary in 1910, honoring her as Our Lady of Lourdes. This grotto, like the one nestled in the Pyrenees Mountain of France, has become a place to pray for healing of body and soul, and to light candles in honor of those for whom we pray.
