Choices
for Children
is a mentoring program of Corryville Catholic Elementary School committed
to assisting junior high students in their transition to high school. The
emphasis is on working with 8th grade students, but programs are also in
place for selected 6th and 7th grade students. In addition, the program
maintains contact with students after they begin high school. Mentors are
effective partners with students, their families and the school in
developing successful high school students and graduates.
Corryville
Catholic Elementary School
is a K-8th grade inner-city Catholic school sponsored by the
Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The school maintains high standards of
academic excellence as part of its mission of meeting the spiritual,
physical, emotional and social needs of the students. Volunteer opportunities include: Office
assistance, bookkeeper, tutoring, painting & cleaning-up of school.
Cincinnati
Housing Partners builds
and rehabs homes for sale to lower income home buyers in the Greater
Cincinnati area as well as assists potential home buyers to acquire the
skills required for successful home ownership. Cincinnati Housing
Partners desires to work with neighborhood organizations engaged in
comprehensive revitalization activities. Since 1985, Cincinnati Housing
Partners has built over 150 homes in seven area neighborhoods and
communities. Volunteer opportunities
include: Fundraising, Construction/Engineering, painting, landscaping, and
carpentry work.
Mount
Notre Dame Health Center
is home for eighty Sisters of Notre Dame. The design of Marian and Cuvilly
promotes social interaction and also provides the Sisters with both common
and private spaces. The philosophy of the Health Center is to have each
Sister functioning at her highest level of independence. Services are
individualized according to the Sister’s needs. Volunteer
opportunities include: drivers, one-to-one companionship with a Sister,
assisting in group activities, assisting with upkeep of landscaping.
Alliance for Work-based Education
(AWE) at the Marriott Hotel in Dayton is a unique partnership between the worker, the supervisor, the employer
and the educator to provide the opportunity for hourly workers to learn while they earn. Through individual tutoring and small
group instruction, classes enable the hourly worker to achieve their
educational goals, improve their work performance and take pride in
themselves as responsible members of the community. Tutors
are needed throughout the academic year for individual and small group
instruction.
The
West End Center
has been serving community residents since 1984 by providing human
services to encourage self-sufficiency and interdependence. Programs
include: Power Inspires Progress, West End Emergency Center/Food Bank,
People Interested in People. Volunteer
opportunities include: Drivers, office work, shoppers, cooks, emergency
assistance work, carpentry/facility maintenance, Public Relations, Human
Resource Management.
Notre
Dame Spirituality Center welcomes
and reaches out to adults who are beginning and/or continuing a
relationship with God through meditation, retreat, spiritual direction and
prayer. On site and parish based ministries are designed to meet the
individual and group needs of those responding to the Spirit of the Good
God. Volunteer opportunities
include: Administrative Assistance, Registration, Hospitality/Meet &
Greet.
 Notre
Dame AmeriCorps
is a private-public partnership forged in 1995 between the Notre Dame
Mission Volunteers, a volunteer program which places volunteers at various
ministry sites to work with the poor and oppressed, and AmeriCorps, a
federally funded service program. Volunteers must commit to one year of
service. In return, the volunteer receives a living stipend, tuition grant
and health insurance. Volunteer
opportunities include: formal & informal education, mentoring,
tutoring, environmental education, after school programs, arts programs,
community outreach.
