DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN A SISTER AND A NUN?

Did you know there was one???

Hint:  It has more to do with where they live and
what they do than with what they look like!

NUNS
SISTERS

Contemplative Religious Life

Apostolic Religious Life

Communities like:
Poor Clares, Trappestines, & Cloistered Dominicans

Communities like: Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of the Precious Blood, & Sisters of Mercy

Primary ministry (work): full-time PRAYER for the needs of our world.

Prayer is important, but their primary works DIFFER according to the NEEDS of the people of God.

Live in ONE PLACE: a convent or monastery apart from society.

Available to go where they are needed....living AMONG God's people.

BOTH

  • Respond to God's call rooted in BAPTISM.

  • Are called SISTER, and are called to be a prophetic voice in the Church.

  • Live in COMMUNITY, discerning the call to this lifestyle for 5-9 years before making a permanent commitment.

  • Live the VOWS of poverty, obedience, and celibate chastity.
