With the support from thoughtful friends like you, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are able to continue our 208-year old mission of educating and taking a stand with the poor — especially women and children in the most abandoned places.
By joining with us, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are able accomplish our worldwide mission to spread the goodness of God and minister where others may not choose to go. Your gift will multiply many times over as our Sisters bring hope to the lives of worthy children, women and families, here at home and around the world.
We are grateful for your generosity and hope that you will take great pride in the important difference that your support makes.
With you, we change lives.
How Does My Gift Make a Difference?
Your gift support Sisters and programs here in the U.S. and around the world. Our five priorities include:
- Supporting Sisters who work directly with the poor in the U.S.
- Supporting Sisters who work in Africa and Latin America
- Supporting our Retired Sisters
- Continuing the work of Sister Dorothy Stang
- Supporting Sisters wherever the need is greatest
Your gift makes it possible for Sisters to work directly with the poor in positions where a salary is not available or is inadequate. It will also support Sisters who work in unfunded special-needs programs in schools and provide for living expenses and benefits until a ministry's funding can be secured and is self-sufficient. Sisters supported by your gift include Sister Judy Tensing in Cincinnati, Ohio who runs a job training program through a pizzaria and catering business; and Sister Marietta Fritz in Saginaw, Michigan who runs Emmaus House for women leaving jail or rehabilitation centers. For additional information on these and other Sisters who work with the poor in the U.S., click here.
Your gift provides for the living expenses, education and spiritual preparation of our Sisters in the growing communities of Africa and Latin America. It supports Sisters who serve some of the world's most needy children and adults in these developing nations. It also supports the repair and construction of essential facilities. Our congregation is completely responsible for the living and education expenses of our Sisters. However, in these developing countries, only 25% of the Sisters' costs can be covered locally. Sisters supported by your gift include Sister Rebecca Trujillo in Metagalpa, Nicaragua who runs “Familias Especiales de Santa Julia Billiart” to help special needs children by focusing first on their mothers; and Sister Carol Wetli in Ilorin, Nigeria who has taught, mentored and advised the Nigerian Sisters in formation, finance, leadership, development of community life policies and strategic planning since 1992. For additional information on these and other Sisters who work with the poor in Africa and Latin America, click here.
Your gift is used to meet the retirement and health care needs of our most frail and elderly Sisters who have given so much to others. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur do not receive any funding from any diocese where we live or work and are entirely responsible for the retirement, health, and long-term care needs of our oldest Sisters. For additional information on our retired Sisters, click here.
Your gift sees that the work begun by Sister Dorothy Stang will be sustained and expanded through educational initiatives here in the States and around the world. It will also provide direct support of programs in the Amazon region of Brazil where Sister Dorothy spent many years of her life. Your gift is used to supplement daily operations as well as other expenses incurred as we carry out the works of our congregation.
