Think of it…spending time on a mountaintop far away from traffic, noise, phones, schedules, TV, pressure and stress.
Think of it… working outdoors on the land, praying, reflecting and building relationships.
If this appeals to you, come for a few days and work with us helping the Big Laurel Learning Center in Kermit, WV. This struggling mountain community is inspired by the voice of God and shepherded by two Sisters – Kathleen O’Hagan (SNDdeN) and Gretchen Shaffer (CSJ). At Big Laurel, they strive to promote healing and social change by providing education, outreach and spiritual renewal in solidarity with the people of southern West Virginia.
October 20-22, we will travel to Big Laurel Learning Center to assist with winter readiness. Our mission involves painting, log splitting (with a log splitter) and other projects to prepare the community for the cold days ahead. Will you join us and make known God¹s goodness?
As part of our newly established Live the Good Volunteers, we’ll learn more about the Big Laurel Community, its historic heritage and the people they serve. Prayerful reflection before, during and after our service is also part of our retreat weekend.
Please join us on October 20-22, 2017.
We plan to car pool and share the cost of gas. Due to the rugged mountain terrain, trucks and SUVs are best suited for the trip. The cost for accommodations and meals is $70. This covers accommodations for two nights and five meals, beginning with supper on Friday through breakfast on Sunday.
Please join us for this wonderful weekend retreat to Big Laurel, filled with spiritual renewal and God inspired mission work.
