Monthly Reflections of God's Goodness
God is so much more than we can imagine and yet it is our imagination that helps us to form our image of God. Most of us had our first lessons about God as children. Perhaps we thought of Him as the big Judge in the sky. This little picture God focused on childhood sins and slips and failings. The Psalms show us a big picture God—God as He truly is.
"You keep your pledge with wonders, O God our savior,
the hope of all the earth and of far distant isles." Psalm 65
When God created the world He left His signature everywhere. In the starlit sky, in the face of a newborn baby, in the glow of a sunset and in you and me.
"You uphold the mountains with your strength, you are girded with power.
You still the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves and the tumult of the peoples. The ends of the earth stand in awe at the sight of your wonders.
The lands of sunrise and sunset you fill with your joy." Psalm 65
Scientists today have expanded our vision by describing a universe of multiple galaxies that began 13.7 billion years ago and continues to evolve. More and more scientists admit to seeing God’s fingerprint in what they study. They come to know that God is beyond our understanding and beyond our words. God is mystery.
The God of the Cosmos, Creator of the universe whose Presence fills us with awe when we have eyes to see, whose love embraces the tiniest flower and the largest continent, the entire cosmos and everything in between—He is a God who draws us into His awareness of all that is.
It is the God of this ever expanding universe who draws us into the creative energy we call the love of God. Our God embraces all of life, drawing us to Himself, urging us to evolve and change, to become a new kind of human being. Our God calls us to embrace all of creation, to be communion for one another, to live with commitment and compassion, opening our hearts and minds to the possibilities and promise of all that is.
God of the Cosmos, give us all eyes to see!
Peace,

"O Lord our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens…when I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established—what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?" Psalm 8
