Special Families of Saint Julie Billiart

Our first international experience as Live the Good Volunteers is to Matagulpa, Nicaragua. We are excited to help Sister Rebecca Trujillo and the families she works with through “Special Families of St. Julie Billiart.”

“Special Families” is an integrated ministry for mothers and their special-needs children, with far-reaching programs for health, nutrition, education, social integration, protection of the natural environment, recreation and spiritual growth. With small businesses where mothers and persons with disabilities earn a living, “Special Families of Saint Julie Billiart” serves nearly 2,000 families a year.

Come with us to Matagulpa to help Sister Rebecca and these special families. Depending on interest area, there are opportunities to work in the restaurant, tortilla, yogurt and cheese factories, wheel chair repair facility, special education school and horse therapy farm.

All the time we are there, we’ll work side-by-side with Sisters and reflect on the goodness of God.

The cost of the trip covering lodging, meals and ground transportation is $250.00. Each volunteer will handle his or her airfare in Managua, Nicaragua. Speaking or reading Spanish is helpful, but not necessary. Volunteers must physically able to walk.  If you would like more information about this exciting mission experience, please contact Sister Kristin Matthes at [email protected] or 240-863-1916.

Please note: While our Mission Experience takes us to Matagulpa, we are monitoring the situation in Managua for any potential travel issues.

More details about “Special Families” can be found in the Summer 2017 issue of Cross Currents.
